The Power Of Hydrogen - The Potential of Health
The term pH stands for the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution - THE POWER OF HYDROGEN. An ion is an atom or group of atoms that carries a positive or negative electrical charge; pH is simply the electrochemical effect we get when negative ions (alkaline-forming) and positive ions (acid-forming) interact with each other.
pH is measured in "logarithmic units," like the Richter scale, which measures earthquakes. Each number represents a 10-fold change in the acidity/basicness of the water. So a pH reading of 5 is ten times more acidic than a pH reading of six and 100 times more acidic than a neutral reading of 7. Mark these words... the science of pH or the acidity / alkaline state of the body will be the new frontier in human health within the coming decade. It's so obvious, it's ridiculous! The body is made of water, so if the 'body of water' is un-well, then the physical body is un-well.
Let's look at it in another way and use a simple analogy. Let's look at a battery, or more to the point, a battery's relationship between its electrolyte (acid) and water H²O (alkaline). It is this relationship that enables a battery to charge up, hold its charge and dis-charge its energy.
When a battery (let's say your car's battery) needs its acid/alkaline (pH) levels adjusted, there are a couple of sure-fire indicators.
-
One: The battery won't re-charge (feeling tired even after a good night sleep).
-
Two: The battery won't hold a charge - therefore being Power-less (the body not feeling strong).
-
Three: There will be acid build-up all around the positive and negative terminals (the skin, eyes and demeanour not glowing vibrantly).
So if your body's batteries aren't doing what they're meant to be doing. That is...
Not Re-charging
Not Holding a charge
Not Dis-charging
What do you do about it???
You check your battery's water levels!
When you top the battery-up with water H²O, you dilute the acid level concentration that surrounds the battery's cells. If you don't top up the batteries water level, the very acid (the electrolyte) that truly gives the battery its ability to re-charge, hold a charge and dis-charge (basically promote life), will eventually eat into the battery's cells creating waste and a toxic environment. And here is where the gig is at...
EVERY SINGLE CELL IN YOUR BODY IS A LITTLE BATTERY!!!
That's right, you have billions and billions of little cell-batteries. This must be understood as this is your vital energy and equates to your life-force energy. An alkaline, rather than acidic environment is one of the major deterrents to tissue damage, aging and the growth of disease organisms (virus's and infections etc.).
Researches have proven that high pH (7.0 - 7.4) levels even promote protection against the most vicious of diseases i.e. cancer. Hence the reason that any reputable healing centre or knowledgeable medico will advocate a diet rich with RAW VEGETABLES (in particular GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES) and FRUIT (that is low in sugars) to heal disease.
The water content of raw fruit and vegetables is pure water!!!
100% HYDROGEN and OXYGEN
but more importantly (and this is the fundamental reason why these eating habits support the body's healing processes), the hydrogen content of this pure water is RICH IN NEGATIVELY CHARGED IONS.
So while we're in a scientific state of mind, do you know how to test your pH levels?
It's actually quite easy - simply use litmus paper.
How to use your litmus paper
There are three effective ways to use your litmus paper to see how your internal pH levels are going. One is using saliva, and the other two use urine.
- Method One:Upon waking, before you have a drink (that includes tea and coffee), simply swallow the saliva that is in mouth and draw-up fresh saliva (measuring your first saliva can be different from the third by several tenths of pH scale). Do this three times and measure the third lot. Spit into a spoon and place litmus paper into the spit and measure immediately. Compare colour to chart.
The optimum saliva pH upon waking should be 7.2.
- Method Two:In a glass or jar, upon waking, collect a sample of your first urine midstream. Midstream means to start urination; stop halfway - collect a small sample and finish urination by normal means.
The optimum urine pH upon waking should be 7.2 or greater.
- Method Three:To get a more accurate measure, take samples of your urine in a jar over a 16-24 hour period. Basically, collect samples of your urine (midstream) and store in a jar (or bowl or small earthen ware container) throughout the day. Keep it covered.
When you are ready to test, dip the strip of paper into your urine, shake off the excess and compare the colour against the chart. The reason for all the samples over a longer time period is to get an average reading rather than a random reading that may or may not be accurate. You can also record a series of random tests and average out the readings.
Bear in mind, if you're on an intense cleansing regime, the reactivated stores of acid will re-circulate and be picked up by the kidneys to be excreted into the urine. So, you'll get acid readings while the body is labouring to make it-self more alkaline.
Which method is best?
- Method One...generally give's a higher acid level reading (6.4 - 6.8). This should move towards the more alkaline levels (7.0 - 7.4) after your first meal and during the day. If it doesn't, try drinking alkalining minerals - i.e. 4 grams of sodium bicarbonate in 200ml of water that has an alkaline pH of 7.0 or greater.
How do I know if the water I'm drinking has an alkaline pH level?

Again, simply use a Water pH Test Kit. Check your tap water - check your filtered water - check your bottled water. You may be very much surprised at what you find. What ever water is the most alkaline and has a negative millivolt ORP reading, that's the water you need to be drinking.
- Method Two...gives a relatively true reading of how your digestive system is processing the foods you eat. If your first urine pH is lower than 7.2 your diet is not rich enough with fresh green vegetables and fruits.
If your first urine pH is higher than 7.2 your system has sufficient alkaline buffers to neutralise acidic foods and drinks that you may have consumed the day before. To increase urine pH which is a direct indicator of tissue pH, have a go at the "Salt Water Cleanse", or regularly drink 3 teaspoons of unrefined rock salt or sea salt in 200 - 300ml of alkaline water.
To maintain the pH balance of your urine, keep away from diets high in protein. High protein diets increase the levels of nitric, sulphuric, phosphoric and uric acids. Minimising or eliminating proteins from beef, chicken, turkey, pork and fish will help normalise the urine pH at 7.2 or greater.
Eat plenty of raw green foods and green drinks, healthy polyunsaturated fats, lots of water and unrefined salt.
- Method Three...can be a bit inconvenient and sometimes messy but is definitely worth the effort. It gives a very accurate (in a simple way) averaged out reading, giving a more accurate assessment of your body's acid/alkaline levels.
What do the readings indicate?
If your urine reads 7.0 or higher on the pH scale, you're alkaline. Below that indicates an acid condition in which viruses have the opportunity to thrive; calcification of the joints can begin and arthritic conditions can occur; cancers can take root and grow; syphilitic and viral conditions can thrive; respiratory problems can reduce your ability to easily move around. Without a doubt, if your body is in a continual state of acidity, you're not a happy chappy. It is generally accepted by scientific investigation that an average reading of 7.4 is the optimal level for healthy and disease free living in your body.
